On March 30th, 2016 SSU foreign students took part in the VII international scientific and practical conference for students and professionals in psychology called ‘Ethnic identity and ethnic interaction in the modern world.’ SSU foreign students made reports about the values of youth culture in Turkmenistan, Iraq, Nigeria, India, Brazil, Palestine, Uzbekistan, Jordan, etc.

During the round table meeting the reports of the participants were discussed according to the following fields: education in the system of cross-cultural values of young people; moral values of friendship, love, family, and the youth in different countries; the image of men and women in different cultures.

The teacher of Chinese language at the Confucius Institute of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University made a report called ‘Etiquette of choosing and presenting gifts in China.’ Her master class in Chinese was a special gift. Conference participants gained knowledge of speech formulas for greetings, farewells and so on.

According to the co-chair of the VII International scientific and practical conference Yuliya Kats, the issue of cultural dialogue, expansion of intercultural relations and exchange of cultural experiences are very relevant in modern multicultural society in general and in our universities in particular. More than 1,000 international students from 46 countries study at SSU. The presence of a large number of foreign students belonging to different ethnic and religious groups requires enhanced attention to the education of the youth providing peace, tolerance, understanding and acceptance of different cultures. The conference encourages everything mentioned above.

During the international scientific and practical conference for students and professionals in psychology called ‘Ethnic identity and ethnic interaction in the modern world’ the master classes including ‘Lialka-travnytsia’ (this master class involved making a doll out of rags and herbs); ‘American training dedicated to working with families and teenagers within Ukrainian realia’ (based on ‘PeopleReachingOut’); ‘Clay therapy – a journey to the center of your soul’; ‘If you want something you’ve never had – you must be willing to do ...’; ‘Stereotypes as a barrier to cross-cultural communication’; ‘Coaching in different socio-cultural conditions’; ‘Using the techniques of art therapy in sandplay’ and others were held.

After the conference that was held at Sumy State Pedagogical University named after Makarenko every participant got a certificate.
