On March 22nd, 2016 SSU held the competitive and entertaining show ‘NEW STARS SSU International’, which had been the traditional and favorite event for all SSU students and staff for a long time. This year 13 contestants from 9 countries took part in the competition. Foreign students competed for victory in two categories – ‘Vocal’ and ‘Choreography’, and also for the ‘Grand Prix’.

Traditionally, only those boys and girls who had never appeared on SSU stage were eligible to participate in the competition. So ‘NEW STARS SSU international’ was a debut, search and discovery of talent, high time for SSU rising stars.

The first part of the event was the charity fair of national dishes. SSU foreign students were dressed in bright national costumes with country flags representing their state or republic, sharing colouring and originality, as well as rising funds for children with special needs. The event was attended by SSU student volunteers – they treated all the guests and participants with delicious Ukrainian dishes. The special boxes for fundraising were at each full of variety of fragrant culinary masterpieces table. According to the Head of Extracurricular Activities Nataliia Gordienko the funds in the amount of 1102 UAH were collected.

After a tasty treat there was a concert, the second part of the event that everyone was looking forward to. Full room of people gathered to cheer and enjoy the talents, and spend time with pleasure. They greeted the hosts Denys Lovchev and Illia Bondarenko with a storm of applause. The exited and energetic hosts presented the jury that was to choose the best contestants, including the Director of SSU Cultural and Artistic Center Roman Levchenko, the Director of the exemplary choreographic ensemble ‘Amelia’ Svitlana Bondarenko, host and singer Ivan Sevastianov (MC Giovanni). The concert program was organized in the new format: before going on stage the contestants were briefly interviewed. Behind the stages another host Yurii Tokman and a translator Yevhenii Lehkobyt were working with contestants as well as entertaining them. The show was broadcasted online.

During the competition program a truly incredible atmosphere dominated in the hall. Everyone who visited the show had extraordinary emotions and a lot of positive impressions. Students supported the participants not only by applauses and ovations, but also by dancing in the concert hall – they jumped up from their seats, unable to hold back the overwhelming emotions.

The Director of SSU Cultural and Artistic Center Roman Levchenko was hosting the Award Ceremony. All contestants were awarded with diplomas for participation. But it was what it was, and the jury selected the best among them. Thus, in the category ‘Vocal’ two girls from Nigeria Brait Vodi and Feivor Volter shared the second place, and Ridvan Oztiurk (Turkey) got the first place. In the category ‘Choreography’ the students from Palestine took the first place. The boys performed national folk dance and won the first place. ‘Grand Prix’ was received by the favorite student of the audience Khikmat Etevi from Jordan. The competitive and entertaining show was spectacular, and the stage filled the participants waving flags of their countries was lit with the enchanting lights.

All spectators and contestants of ‘NEW STARS SU International’ sincerely thanked the Department of Extracurricular Activities and wished that such events could take place more often, because they not only found new talents and gave a joy of art, but also strengthened the international relations.
