The senior teacher of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Nataliia Dolgova (PhD in Pedagogical Sciences) became a prizewinner of the IX Jerzy Giedroyc Competition for the best diploma, Master's and PhD theses dedicated to the history and modern life of Poland and the Polish-Ukrainian relations. For her thesis called ‘Modernization of Physical Education and Sports in the University Education of Poland’ the SSU representative received not only a diploma, but also a special award.

The jury that consisted of the leading scientists from Poland and Ukraine graded over 30 theses sent for the competition. On October 30 the ceremonial presentation of diplomas was held in the Embassy of Poland in Ukraine.

Jerzy Giedroyc (1906-2000) was the founder and the editor-in-chief of ‘Kultura’ journal, published in Paris from 1947 till 2000. The vision of the new independent Poland was reflected on the pages of the journal. Jerzy Giedroyc believed that there could be no really independent Poland without the independent Ukraine. This belief became the basis for the concept of Polish-Ukrainian relations under the new geopolitical conditions. Thanks to the considerable efforts of Jerzy Giedroyc Poland was the first country to recognize the independence of Ukraine, consciously supporting the democratic changes and considering the independent Ukraine to be the most important partner in the Eastern Europe.
