On March 5th Sumy State University hosted events dedicated to the 70th anniversary of signing the North Atlantic Treaty. On this occasion special guests visited SSU: Great Britain Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador in Ukraine Judith Gough; political consultant of Canada Embassy in Ukraine Ruslan Kats; Deputy Director of the Centre of NATO Information and Documentation Viktorija Cieminyte; First Secretary of the Great Britain Embassy in Kyiv Oliver Fairlamb and political analyst of the Great Britain Embassy in Ukraine Olena Korostyshevska.

During the official meeting SSU rector Anatoliy Vasylyev noted, that the university pays great attention to educational activities among students regarding the NATO role in citizens freedom assurance. “There are specialised centers functioning at SSU – Center of European and Euroatlantic Information, Regional Security Research Center; SSU has the stele memory of fallen heroes, besides from that, in the nearest future we are planning to open the monument of warrior student”, - Anatoliy Vasylyev noted.

Also, guests took part in the panel discussion with students, militaries, scientists and public figures. Judith Gough in her speech pointed, that Ukraine’s path to the NATO is surely long, but the positive changes are obvious. “Ukraine is supported not only by the Great Britain and Canada, but the other NATO members countries as well. Our goal for today is to inform Ukrainian society, that NATO is important political alliance, it is Europe’s guaranteed defense. And I’m pleased to be at SSU today to explain students our insights in NATO, relations with Alliance and Ukraine, and everything that is being done now by Great Britain and Canada, because now we are joint contact NATO embassy in Ukraine”, - Judith Gough said.

The final stage of the meeting was the English-speaking conference of Political Discussion Club participated by Viktorija Cieminyte, SSU teachers and students.
