Sumy State University with United Nations Development Programme and Sumy National Agrarian University organized and conducted the Regional Forum "Days of Sustainable Development in Sumy region".

The event was dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals and review of their inplementation on international and national levels. Opportunities of cooperation UNDP and Sumy for 2018-2020 were presented.

Sumy State University represented the Sustainable goal №4 “Quality education”. The speakers were: Volodymyr Lyubchak, Vice-rector for scientific and pedagogic work, Iryna Skliar, Assistant to the Rector for Introduction of innovative learning technologies and Nadiia Kostiuchenko, Head of Department of Internatiolization of educational activity.

SSU represented the section, which was devoted to education and the sustainable development with a presentation of the main education trends for modern learning technologies. Denys Smolennikov, Deputy Director of the Oleg Balatskyi Academic and Research Institute of Finance, Economics and Management acted as a section moderator. During the section participants developed the model of quality education in future and had an opportunity to take a part in an interactive situational game.

Successful and long-term cooperation was emphasized between United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine and Sumy State University, and rector Anatoliy Vasylyev was awarded with the gratitude.

Also, the winners of the essay сontest on sustainable development for students of Sumy HEI received their awards, which have been held as part of celebration of sustainable development days by UNDP in Ukraine.  

The trend of “Global climate changes: threats to humanity and possible ways to minimize problems” had its’ SSU winners: student of Academic and Research Institute of Business Technologies “UAB” Daria Kyrychenko and student of the Faculty of Technical Systems and Energy Efficient Technologies Iryna Sipko; the trend of “Responsible resources consumption for economic growth and sustainable development of society” the winners were the students of Oleg Balatskyi Academic and Research Institute of Finance, Economic and Management Daria Pavlenko, Inna Malionkina and Yevheniia Kripak.

Sumy State University cooperates with UN Development Programme since 2010. During this time students and teachers of SSU took part in numerous events within sustainable development. Every year SSU students take part in All-Ukrainian student scientific work contest “Sustainable development with participation of local communities”, sustainable development debates, summer schools with support of UNDP in Ukraine, courses, training visits to Sumy region communities. SSU scientists are engaged in monographs preparation, collection of the local sustainable development cases, trainings and scientific researches.

For now, the new period of a wider cooperation is commencing. On November 15th-16th Kyiv hosted a meeting of representatives of universities-partners of UNDP in Ukraine. During two-days interactive training participants discussed opportunities for further cooperation, and developed universities-partners’ suggestions within the basic ways of UNDP operation in Ukraine, considering the research interests of HEIs: allocation of Sustainable Development Goals; Sustainable Development and environment; transparency and integrity in public sector; civil society; human rights and access to justice; democratic governance.

Director of UNDP in Ukraine Janthomas Hiemstra also took part in the meeting, as well as UNDP counselor for democratic governance Marcus Brand, portfolio manager Mustafa Sait-Ametov, coordinator of “Open Government” initiative Nataliia Vatamaniuk, manager of UNDP trend of transparency and integrity Diana Zubko, national coordinator of integrity processes Nadiia Babynska, program coordinator of civil society development Olena Ursu, “Youth worker” program coordinator Hanna Ostrikova, and representatives of 21 HEIs of Ukraine, that are connected by education network of sustainable development promotion and for now are UNDP partners. Nadiia Kostiuchenko represented SSU in this work meeting.
