On October 19th Sumy State University held "International Day @ SSU" joined by more than 200 students, teachers and university guests.

During the event Ukrainian and foreign participants of grant and scholarship programs shared their experience and impressions and gave practical advice on expanding of university’s international activity, engaging of more students and staff in academic mobility programs and international grant programs and projects.

"International Day @ SSU" was in the format of two parallel sections. Guests got acquainted with exposition “The geography and scope of SSU international activity” and visited presentations of university international activity directions and corresponding best practices. Participants learned about grant and scholarship programs competitions by ERASMUS+, Fulbright, DAAD etc. The subject of internationalization has been explored by the speakers – David Quin, Professor of Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (Ireland), Diana Pendicheva, Medical Institute of Pleven, (Bulgaria) and Joseph Kush, Fulbright program scholar (USA). Also SSU students shared their personal experience of participating in the international activity programs – representative of Academic and Research Institute of Business Technologies “UAB” Oleksandr Polishchuk and Ruslan Yermakov, student of the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technologies.

As it was noted by SSU rector Anatoliy Vasylyev, there is a Department of internationalization of higher education created in the university to engage more students and postgraduates to participate in academic mobility programs.

The Head of International Affairs Office of SSU Kostyantyn Kyrychenko expressed anticipation that "International Day @ SSU" will become traditional for Sumy State University, after all it is already impossible to imagine the university development without international activity. Vice-Rector Volodymyr Lyubchak presented the certificates of appreciation to the most active structural units and SSU employees for development of the university international activity.

SSU is a constant partner in the joint projects within international grant programs of European Union (Tempus, Erasmus Mundus, Jean Monnet, Erasmus+, Horizon 2020), the United Nations Development Programme, British Council, the World Bank, intermutual scientific and research projects, private funds grants. The university accomplishes more than 200 grants annually. For the last 5 years the amount of research work within international grant projects has increased 20 times. 20% of postgraduates are the participants of international academic mobility programs. Overall around 1300 foreign students from nearly 50 world countries are getting an education in SSU.
