From June 13th to 15th Sumy State University held international seminar within the grant project “The quality assurance system in Ukraine: development on the basis of European standards and recommendations” (QUAERE) of the programme EU Erasmus+.

The topic of the discussion was the issue of developing an internal and external system of quality assurance of higher education in Ukraine. Among the seminar participants were representatives of Taras Shevchenko Kiev National University, Ivan Franko Lviv National University, National Technical University “Dniprovska Polytechnika”, Ilya Metchnykov Odesa National University, Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, Berdiansk State Pedagogical University, Khmelnytsky National University, Ukrainian Association of Student Self- Government, Institute of Higher Education of National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, National Erasmus+ office, and European coordinator of QUAERE project Prof. Mariusz Mazurkiewicz (Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, Poland).

The event was opened by the SSU Rector Anatoliy Vasylyev. In his welcoming speech, he emphasized the crucial importance of ensuring the quality of education for the University.

During the seminar was presented an internal quality assurance system for education and quality of higher education in Sumy State University, and development of project consortium - the organizational structure of the internal quality assurance system of HEI, main functions of the corresponding unit, results of monitoring the implementation of quality assurance systems in HEI of Ukraine etc.

Moreover, during 3 days participants analysed the results of pilot external evaluation of educational programs, which was implemented by European accredited agencies in 8 Ukraine universities, and formed methodical recommendations for implementation of external evaluation of educational programs by National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education in future.

“Sumy State University – one of the leaders of the Tempus projects implementation, and now Erasmus+ too. We can see, that it has a very powerful team of reformers and often we quote the SSU as an example of successful development of international cooperation system, reform of the higher education system. The biggest changes within the QUAERE project have occurred in SSU, maybe because the University didn’t wait for the project, and began all these processes earlier, learning international experience and introducing certain points in improving the system of higher education. This project is important not just for the University itself, but also for the country in general. The only project goal is higher education quality. For students it's the main thing, because high-quality higher education increases the chances of successful employment,- said analytical manager of the National Erasmus+ office in Ukraine Zhanna Talanova commenting on the event.

The QUAERE project belongs to the type “structural measures”, that anticipates the national level of its results implementation.
